High prices of raw materials have pushed the Laminates prices up again

 


High prices of raw materials have pushed the Laminates prices up again within 30 days in the year 2022. As per report, there has been an unprecedented increase in the prices of all the raw materials only in the month of March in addition to the previous recommendation made on 10.02.2022. The industry has also seen substantial increase in the cost of fuel and transport and this has resulted in an increase in the overhead cost of production.

ILMA being the representative body of laminate producers across the country has assessed the tentative impact of increase and issued advisory to all the members based on prevailing market; so that members can take appropriate decisions and suitable actions.

As per recommendation dated 8th March, 2022, the prices of 1 mm, 0.9 mm, 0.8 mm and 0.7 mm will increase Rs. 50, Rs. 40, Rs. 30 and Rs. 20 respectively. Hence the prices of 1 mm and 0.8 mm will up to Rs 90 and Rs. 70 respectively within a month.

NCR Based Ply-Lam Units To Shut For A Week



All the plywood, block boards, flush doors, decorative laminates, decorative Veneers and other products that are listed as pollution causing manufacturing units would shut down for over a week from 4 to 10th November 2018. EPCA, Environment Pollutions (Prevention & Control) Authority for National Capital Region is directed that all Industries using Coal and Biomas as fuel (excluding thermal and waste Energy Plants) to remain closed in Delhi and NCR districts from November 4 to 10, 2018. Industries that use natural gas as fuel can continue to operate.

0.72 mm Laminate Folders Are Eating In To 0.8 Markets



When capacity goes much beyond demand, the quality of a product takes the first toll. In a desperate selling mode, few of the HPL manufacturers began offering texture laminates at dirt cheap price to gain some foot hold in the north market. After three years this product category has gained a significant volume in tier two and tier three cities. The emergence of 0.72 mm decorative laminates in folder form are have began giving fight to 0.8 mm market share in pockets. It is also evident that 0.72 folders are gaining access to new application where cheap 0.6 or liner laminate were being used instead of adding to new customers from paint category, 0.72 mm has began eating in to 0.8 mm sales as well.

Increasing cost of imported wood is giving a smooth road for alternate material for window frames application in metro and big cities. A recent survey in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Chennai, Surat, Pune etc found that the builders started preferring other materials such as Aluminium, UPVC, LVL, Steel, etc for window frames. Builders say that imported wooden window frames prices are fluctuating every day, and prices are going beyond their budget, so they have started preferring alternate options.

Skilled Manpower Shortage, a Growing Worry!


Entire Indian wood panel & plywood, decorative laminates, doors, WPC/PVC, furniture and kitchen manufacturing sectors are adding to their production capacity year on year. Report says that more than 200 plywood presses are being added in ply, MDF and Particle manufacturing capacity is growing, HPL and WPC on the same way apart from addition of various next generation engineered doors units. Furniture and kitchen sectors are also expanding their production capacity etc but all are ignoring a big issue. Do the companies know that how and from where would they find skilled manpower for smooth running of their operation. Data suggests that the entire wood panel, decorative and PVC sector are making big losses may be in tune of 300-400 cr annually due to shortage of skilled manpower and lacking of able technical heads. Increasing production of B-grade materials, growing overhead cost and under utilization of installed capacity is good enough to justify the numbers.
